Russian car market took the second place in Europe as per the results of the eight months

The Russian car market which was the leader in 2008, and in 2009 and 2010 was the fifth in Europe, has been on the second place in Europe for five months already. Moreover, as per the results of the eight months, Russia has come up to the second place, and, according to AUTOSTAT analytics’s forecast, it should keep the second place as per the results of the year.

According to the review of European car market in August, the leader in car sales in August is still Germany, where after the little decrease in June, the local car market has been growing for two months – by 18.3% up to 237,561 cars in August. If to take Russia into consideration, our country is still on the second place. According to AUTOSTAT calculation, 208,700 cars were sold in Russia last month. The third place belongs to France, where after the four months of decrease car sales grew by 3.1% up to 108,462 cars. Italy is still on the fourth place with 70,307 cars sold (+1.5%). The fifth place belongs to Great Britain, whose car market after thirteen months of decrease in August grew by 7.3% up to 59,346 cars.

According to SMMT that is a result of the low base effect, as the decrease in the car market was maximum last year in August.

Meanwhile, according to AUTOSTAT analysts, as per the result of the eight months of 2011, the Russian car market has also taken the second place. Thus, the first place belongs to Germany with 2.121 million cars sold. Russia is on the second (1.578 cars), France is on the third (1.483 million cars), Italy is on the fourth (1.222 million cars) and Great Britain is on the fifth place (1.22 million cars).

According to adjusted forecast of AUTOSTAT agency, 2.44 million new passenger cars (without LCV) will be sold in Russia in 2011. That is 37% more than in 2010 (1.78 million cars). At that according to the current forecast of BDW-Automotive analytic agency (Germany), 3.14 million new cars (+7.7%) will be sold in Germany, 2.07 million car (-8.1%) in France, 1.94 million cars (-4.5%) in Great Britain, and 1.9 million cars (-2.7%) in Italy. Thus, Russia has to get back its second place in European car sales rating.
