The Russian car market grew by 11% in August

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 11% up to 147,388 cars in Russia in August. For eight months of 2018, the Russian car market grew by 16.2% up to 1 million 140 thousand 061 cars, according to the data of the Association of European Businesses.

As it was noted in the AEB, since the beginning of this year, the market recovery has progressed well, with an 18% of growth year-on-year by the end of July. In August, this trend continued, supported by the peak of spontaneous purchases associated with the recent weakening of the ruble. In the coming months, the growth is likely to continue, as the planned increase in VAT since January of 2019 will in any case ensure a high level of demand before the end of this year, expected in the association. Recall, according to the AEB forecast, in 2018, the Russian car market could grow by 10% up to 1.75 million cars last year.

The leadership in the Russian car market is held by AvtoVAZ, which sold 28,683 LADA cars in the last month, which is more by 9% than a year ago. The second place in terms of sales was occupied by KIA - sales of 18,857 cars (+ 25%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. Hyundai kept the third place with the figure of 13,993 sold cars, which is more by 4% than the last year. Then Renault follows - cars of this brand were chosen by 11,534 buyers (+ 3%). The TOP-five of leaders is closed by Toyota, sales of which were 9,748 cars (+ 23%). The TOP-10 of the best-selling brands by the results of August included Volkswagen (8,637 units, + 20%), Nissan (7,108 units, + 21%), Skoda (6,741 units, + 34%), GAZ (4,993 units, 0%) and Ford (4,035 units, -4%).
