The unmanned vehicles GAZ were presented at first in Russia

At the Moscow International Auto Show, as part of the “Mobilistic 18” technology festival, the Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) demonstrated for the first time two unmanned vehicles of its own design. As the press service of the company informs, prototypes of unmanned vehicles are created on the basis of GAZelle NEXT electric buses and they are equipped with two different types of autonomous control systems.

It is noted that unmanned vehicles GAZ provide completely autonomous movement on a given route operator. Vehicles are able to determine independently obstacles on the route (both stationary and dynamic). The central computer evaluates the possibility of intersection of vehicle trajectories and obstacles.

Both systems have navigation systems based on high-precision GPS / GLONASS modules with differential correction receivers, which allow the determination of the vehicle's position with an accuracy of 1 cm. To improve the stability the systems have inertial navigation units that allow tracking the location in case of a short interruption of the satellite signal for example, when driving under a bridge). Another element of the complex for obtaining high-precision data on the location of the vehicle is the system for recognizing road markings and road infrastructure objects.

In one of the presented UAVs it is used an additional localization system with the usage of laser sensors - lidars. The car has an original technology for recognizing of the boundaries of the roadway in the absence or invisibility of road marking - by indirect signs. This technology is a joint development of GAZ and a team of scientists of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University named after R. E. Alekseev.

Another car has a control system based on stereo cameras - passive devices for collecting information about the environment. Due to the low level of radiation, these devices allow the system to navigate in space, without interfering with other unmanned transport, the devices themselves are protected from interference, including - from cyber attacks. The system includes several blocks of wide-angle stereopairs forming a "depth map" around the vehicle, a circular viewing subsystem and a subsystem of ultrasonic sensors of a large range.
