    For the last year, 1 million 671.6 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is more by 13.3% than in the last year. At the same time, in December of 2018, sales of new cars were 158.3 thousand units, which is more by 3.9% than a year ago. As for crossovers and SUVs, their sales in January-December grew by 18.1% in compare with 2017 and they were 729.2 thousand cars. The segment's share in total sales grew by 1.7 percentage points and reached 43.6%.

The average term of "premium" brand owning is shorter by 12 months than the mass brand

In Russia, the average term of ownership of a car that was bought new one reached 57 months (or 4 years and 9 months) in 2017. However, according to the survey of experts of the analytic agency "AUTOSTAT", this indicator can vary significantly depending on the segment and brand of the car.

So, for cars of mass brands it is 58 months (or 4 years and 10 months), and owners of premium brands cars change them more often - 46 months in average (or 3 years and 10 months).
Among the mass brands, the most common cars are Citroen (59 months or 4 years and 11 months) and Lifan (47 months or 3 years and 11 months). Results for Mazda are slightly higher - 60 months or 5 years. Some mass brands in this regard outperform the 5-year limit, such as the domestic LADA (62 months), and the largest figure here is fixed at Suzuki (69 months). In its turn, owners drive Volvo cars the longest time in the premium segment - 59 months in average (or 4 years and 11 months). And the brands Infiniti and Lexus are the closest to the average value in the segment: the owners resell them in 47 months after the purchase.
