The government intends to stimulate demand for electric vehicles

The Russian government is ready to introduce measures of financial support for those who buy cars with electric motors, as well as for those who build infrastructure for them. Not only privileges are discussed, but also the stimulation of demand: state companies can oblige to update the parc by purchasing electric cars. Specific measures are to be worked out by interdepartmental commission, which is being created by the government now. It is proposed to develop subsidy programs, preferential car loans and auto leasing. Owners of shopping and entertainment centers are to be awarded by tax incentives for the equipment of electric stations.

The measures of support will be addressed to the manufacturers of electric vehicles - both domestic and foreign, localizing the assembly in the Russian Federation. It is also proposed to fix the minimum quotas for purchase of electric transport for budget organizations. A separate line is the task of simplifying the procedure for installing the ERA-GLONASS device on electric vehicles.

Until the middle of November, it is planned to form a working group, which will develop concrete measures for the development of electric transport in the country. The Ministry of Economic Development believes that Russian producers are able not only to achieve the level of technological development of the world's leading companies, but also to take leading positions in separate segments by 2025.

Many Russian automakers already have completed or underway electric transport projects. So, AVTOVAZ in the middle of last year introduced the model LADA Vesta EV. KAMAZ is preparing the production of 12 m long electric buses; in 2018 the plant will be ready to start the mass production. None of these vehicles have yet been released serially, and the companies themselves assess the prospects for the mass production of electric vehicles with caution.

"We will be ready to enter the market when there is an economically justified demand," - said Sergei Ilyinsky, the head of the press service of AvtoVAZ. In the "Group GAZ" consider the introduction of production of cars on gas fuel more promising. KAMAZ intends to concentrate on developing the domestic component of the base for electric cars.

According to the agency "AUTOSTAT", for 8 months of 2017 in Russia 50 electric vehicles were sold, which is 35% more than the figures for the same period of the last year. The list of electric cars that can be bought in Russia is quite modest: it's the Tesla Model X and Model S, as well as Nissan Leaf, Renault Twizy and Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
