The optimistic forecast of the car market in 2016 - minus 10%

16614.jpg

By the results of 2015 about 90 million new cars were sold in the world. For the year Russia was not included in the top-10 of leading markets in the world, as it was in the 2014th (8th place). With almost 1.5 million sold units, our country was only in the top-15, occupying the 12th place. Therewith, the share of the top 15 markets is about 80% of global car sales. Such data were presented today in the report at the VI annual conference of analysts and marketing, the director of the analytic agency "AUTOSTAT", Sergey Tselikov.

The expert also noted that 15 of the world leading car markets, only three finished 2015 year with negative growth: Japan (-7.9%), Brazil (-25.6%) and Russia (-36%), the rest are on the rise.
Why the Russian market fell so deeply? According to Mr.Tselikov, there are two main reasons. The first is the reducing purchasing power (decreased income, increased costs, and increased prices). The second is the change in consumer sentiments (insecurity, the mood for a longer operation of the vehicle, shift to cheaper segments of consumption).

In addition, Sergey Tselikov in his report identified several factors that supported the Russian car market in 2015 and they did not give it to fall even further, and therefore some of them may become a support of car sales in 2016. Among them - the fact that prices for cars have grown more slowly than the falling ruble. Consumers were pushed for the purchase by the understanding of the situation that "tomorrow will be more expensive than it is today." The current situation, as noted the expert, is that today to buy a car (including the dollar rate and the artificial suppression of prices of many manufacturers) is still profitable.

Largely car market was supported by the marketing activity of manufacturers and dealers. The first one stimulated purchases of cars by an active launch to the market of new models and "upgrades" of the old, and the second – by their actions and special offers.

The great help to the market in 2015 became also the state support measures. Thus, the recycling program and Trade-in sales allowed them to stimulate the purchase of about 350 thousand cars, subsidized credit and leasing programs have added to them more than 270 thousand cars.
Analysts believe that if the above mentioned trends are kept in 2016 and the oil price not lower than 56 dollars per barrel then the Russian car market may fall by only 10%, and it has a chance to reach a sales volume of 1.35 million cars (optimistic forecast). In the pessimistic scenario, it may fall to 1.1 million units (-27%).
