Sales of Chinese passenger cars fell by 52% in Russia


At the end of 2015 in Russia it was sold 38753 new passenger cars of Chinese brands, which is less by 52% than in 2014 (81,292 units). Recall that the whole Russian market in the last year fell by 36%. Thus, the share of "Chinese" cars fell from 3.5% to 2.6%.

The leader among the Chinese brands in our country once again became Lifan (15131 units), a drop in sales of which corresponds to the average. In second place there is again Geely (11617 units), who has lost 38% by the results of 2014. Then with the large backlog the top-three of "Chinese" brands is closed by Chery, the sales of which were 4964 units (-73%). the sales of Great Wall (3181 units) are even worse, they fell by 79%. This brand shows the highest negative trend among Chinese representatives.

The only Chinese brand, which is showing sales growth - it's Brilliance (+ 26%), but the absolute amounts are small - only 1,202 cars per a year. A little more was sold by newcomer of Russian car market - Dongfeng (1365 units), which made its debut only the last year. Car sales of other Chinese brands are measured by several hundred units.

China's most popular model in the Russian market is a crossover Lifan X60, the sales of which in 2015 were 8,300 units – less by 51% than a year before.

As the director of the analytic agency "AUTOSTAT", Sergei Tselikov, said, among all the manufacturers from China the strong position in the Russian market is belonged to Lifan and Geely. The rest of the Chinese brands are "at risk" and this year they are likely to indicate their presence in the market.
