    In 2018, sales of new cars in Russia grew by 12.8% in compare with 2017. Both segments - the mass and premium ones - also showed the growth (+ 13.9% and + 7.4%, respectively). Sales of cars of mass brands reached 1 572 246 units in 2018, the share of which is 91.2% of the total sales volume.

LADA 4x4 and Chevrolet Niva – are the leaders of the secondary market of segment SUV

The popularity of crossovers in Russia continues to grow. According to AUTOSTAT, the results of the first quarter of 2015 showed that the proportion of crossover and coupe in the amount of the new car market is approaching gradually 40%. 

The situation is also changing in the market for used cars to the direction of increasing segment of SUV. Thus, in the 1st quarter of 2012 the share of crossovers in the secondary market was 15.5%, in the 1st quarter of 2013 - 16.5%, for the first three months of 2014 - 17.8%, in 2015 it has increased to 19.2%.

Russians like the appearance and size of these vehicles, as additional factors, many motorists noted the passability, versatility, and the combination of spaciousness, dynamics and low fuel consumption.

Over the last five years in the secondary market in this segment the permanent leader – is LADA 4x4, second place is occupied by Chevrolet Niva. By the final data for the 1st quarter of 2015, this situation persists to this day. From January to March it is far ahead of the other models, 22.7 thousand cars LADA 4x4 with mileage found their new owners (1st place in the top 10). Chevrolet Niva has the 2nd place (13.5 thousand units).

The top ten of SUV segment in the secondary market for the last five years includes constantly six models, by occupying the position of one or the other. They are, in addition to the mentioned models, two models of Toyota (RAV4 and Land Cruiser), UAZ 3151 and Nissan X-Trail.
