Russia has kept the 12th place in the ranking of world automotive markets

Car market of Yekaterinburg fell again in January

According to the agency “Auto-Dealer-Yekaterinburg”, it was sold 3,169 new cars and light commercial vehicles in Yekaterinburg in January 2015 – it is less by 29% than the year before. Most strongly at the end of one month, the city car market fell only in August of the last year, when sales drop was more than 30%.

Market leader in January became Hyundai, which kept sales at the same level as the last year (465 units). Lada, which ranked first traditionally, this time was only on the third place (305 units, -53%), behind Nissan (357 units, 33%). For the first time the top-10 of automotive market of Yekaterinburg included Datsun, which sold 131 cars.

Eight brands showed a positive trend in January, and three of them are the premium segment (Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Porsche).

"A serious failure of the car market in the beginning of the year was expected - those who wanted to invest the falling ruble or make money by selling cars, for example, in Kazakhstan, have already made purchases in December”, - said the director of “Auto-Dealer-Yekaterinburg”, Michael Chaplygin. – “In January, the market grew by inertia - the salons still had remnants of the former luxury. In February and March, we should not expect the major trend of changes. Only after the price adjustment by importers and restart of government support programs the market will revive”.

Several brands began the year poorly - Opel, Peugeot and Citroen together sold fewer cars than, for example, FIAT. Each of these three brands showed a drop of more than 90%.

The share of Yekaterinburg in total car sales in Russia reduced sharply. If at the end of 2014 it was 3.2%, then in January – it was 2.7%
