Saab was again threatened with extinction

Swedish car brand Saab is once again under threat of extinction: the company that bought it after the bankruptcy does not have enough money for a full resumption of production and long-term.

Concern Saab Automobile filed for bankruptcy in 2011; in 2012 it was bought by the Swedish-Chinese investment group National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB (NEVS). In December of 2013 Saab resumed car production at the plant in Trollhattan, western Sweden. It was assumed that initially the cars will be sold in China, and to the Swedish market it will go only a small number of them.

However NEVS announced about the imminent dismissal of 200 employees (550) due to the failure of negotiations on the financing. Own funds of the investment group ended before the middle of this year, says the agency "Finmarket".

Production was suspended in May, and this week NEVS said that it did not know when it will be reopened. "We cannot decide to start the production without a long-term financing plan," - said the representative of NEVS, Michael Estlund. NEVS planned this year to start the production and sales of electric vehicle based on the base of Saab 9-3 for the Chinese market, but it has not happened.
