The agency has calculated three scenarios of the industry development.

More than half of all car dealers in Russia are Chinese brands

As of the second half of October 2023, there were 3,550 car dealers* in our country, which is 13% more than a year ago (in October 2022 there were 3,141). This was found out by the experts of AUTOSTAT agency within the framework of preparation of the report "Dealer Networks. Monitoring of dealer contracts for passenger cars".

The experts also note that the growth of dealerships in Russia is largely due to Chinese brands. Thus, the share of their dealers more than doubled during the year. As a consequence, today more than half (56.3%) of all car dealers in Russia belong to brands from China. At the same time, a year ago they owned a little more than a quarter (26.4%). In addition to the "Chinese", domestic automakers have also improved their position, the share of their dealers has grown from 13.6% to 15.4% for the year. But for the rest of the market participants it only decreased.

European brands have "sagged" the most in this respect - the share of their dealerships fell more than 3 times (from 25.8% to 7.6%). In other words, if last year they were almost at the same level with the Chinese, now they are ahead only of the Americans. The share of dealers of the latter is currently 0.5% (against 1.2% in October 2022). Asian brands have also suffered losses. If the share of dealers for the Japanese decreased from 20.2% to 11.5%, for the Koreans - from 12.7% to 8.7%.

*Official dealerships (contracts) for the sale and servicing of passenger cars are taken into account, without service partners.
