More than a half of the new passenger cars sold in September 2023 were imported into Russia from abroad. Such data* were announced by experts from the AUTOSTAT agency during the online broadcast “AUTOSTAT Operative. Current information in the Russian car market. Results of September 2023.” Thus, the share of imported cars in early autumn accounted for 55% of the total sales volume.
For comparison: in September 2022 this figure was 28%. Thus, it almost doubled per a year. At the same time, experts divide imports into official (traditional) and alternative (parallel). In this case, at the end of September 2023, official imports (supplies from Chinese automakers) accounted for 44%, and alternative imports accounted for 11%.
A year ago, they accounted for 20% and 8% of total sales, respectively. But the share of sales of locally assembled foreign cars fell almost threefold for the year: if in the first month of autumn last year they took about a third (31%) of the market, now only 11%. The market share of cars of domestic brands also decreased - from 41% (in September 2022) to 34% (in September 2023).
