How has the structure of dealer networks in Russia changed?

As of mid-April 2023, 3,081 car dealers* worked in our country. And this number is lower by 123 than it was a year ago. Such data were obtained by the experts of "AUTOSTAT" agency during the preparation of the review "Dealer networks. Monitoring of dealer contracts for passenger cars. Against the background of a decrease in the total number of dealers of Chinese and Russian brands, their number, on the contrary, is growing. So, for the year, the "Chinese" had 426 more official dealer centers, and domestic brands – more by 79. As a result, the share of the former increased from 22.9% to 37.7%, and the latter - from 13.1% to 16.2%.

Thus, today more than half of all auto dealers in the country represent the interests of Chinese and Russian automakers. Despite the fact that the share of "Korean" dealers slightly increased (from 12.5% to 12.8%), in quantitative terms they became slightly less (-6). But for other market participants, the losses are very noticeable, and quite often this is due to the transition to the category of service partners. If the "Americans" lost 85 official dealers for the last year, then the "Japanese" - 173, and the "Europeans" - 364. Accordingly, their share has also changed significantly. For European brands, it is 16.9%, and they have now dropped to second place (27.6%) after the last year's leaders, and they soon risk losing it, by leaving behind domestic brands.

The share of "Japanese" decreased from 20.6% to 15.8%, and "Americans" - from 3.3% to 0.6%. Experts of "AUTOSTAT" agency noted that while maintaining the current trend in the car market, the share of Chinese and Russian manufacturers will continue to grow.

* Official dealer centers (contracts) for the sale and maintenance of cars are taken into account, without service partners.
