When a car choosing, Russians began to take into account the cost of spare parts more often

The cost of car owning is becoming increasingly important for Russians when choosing a car. This conclusion was made by the specialists of the agency "AUTOSTAT" after comparing the results of surveys among car owners in 2019 and 2023. It has been noticed that some parameters from the list that forms the cost of ownership have become less relevant, while others, on the contrary, have "grown up". So, for example, four years ago, in 2019, car owners put fuel consumption in the first place among these parameters: almost 74% of respondents took these costs into account when a car choosing. In 2023, this is still important for many (65%), but the cost of spare parts came to the fore in terms of relevance (67%). Very important for car owners before and now is the cost of car maintenance and repair (57 - 58%). To a greater extent than before, Russians in 2023 began to look at the size of the transport tax (an increase of 9 percentage points was noted for the last four years). This is probably due to the increase in car prices in general and the fact that more and more cars began to fall under the so-called "luxury tax".

In addition, we recall that the category of electric vehicles that are more actively entering our market is now completely exempt from transport tax. Another interesting point: car owners began to pay more attention to such indicator as the loss in price during the subsequent sale of the car (residual value). In 2023, the growth of this indicator was 5 p.p. It can be assumed that it will continue to grow, as the situation with prices in the car market remains unstable, and accordingly, there are all prerequisites for thinking about selling a car tomorrow with a greater profit today. Detailed information about the mood of Russian car owners, their readiness to buy a car, as well as preferences in choosing - is contained in the report "Barometer of the Mood and Financial Situation of Russian Car Owners (Third Wave)".
