One third of all car dealers in Russia belong to Chinese brands

As of mid-January 2023, there were 3,164 car dealers in Russia, 56 less than a year ago (in January 2022, there were 3,220). Such data were obtained by the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" during the regular monitoring* of dealer networks of automakers officially represented in the Russian market. A deeper analysis of the obtained statistics allowed specialists to conclude that for the year dealer networks have changed not only quantitatively.

This is especially noticeable if you group them according to the principle of origin of brands. Thus, the share of dealers representing the interests of European brands decreased from 27.5% (in January 2022) to 22.8% (in January 2023). A similar picture emerged for dealers that work with Japanese (their share fell from 20.6% to 16.4%) and American (from 4.1% to 0.7%) cars. But the number of Chinese dealers has grown more than others and, apparently, they have benefited the most from the transformation. At the beginning of this year, "Chinese" accounted for exactly one third of all dealers in our country. At the same time, just a year ago, this figure was 22.4%.

In addition to the Chinese, domestic brands improved their position, the share of dealers of which increased from 13% to 14.3%. There is also a slight increase in the "Koreans" (from 12.4% to 12.5%), despite the difficult market situation for them. Thus, today every third dealer belongs to Chinese brands, every sixth to Japanese, every seventh to Russian, and every eighth to Korean.

* official dealer centers (contracts) for the sale and maintenance of cars are taken into account, without service partners.
