At the end of 2021, sales of new cars in Russia showed the growth both in the mass and premium segments, experts of the AUTOSTAT analytical agency noted. Thus, in the mass segment, sales of cars grew by 3.1% to 1,420.3 thousand units. But 9 brands included in the TOP-25 in terms of sales (AEB statistics) showed a negative trend.

Among them, the most noticeable drop was shown by the Chinese Changan the last year (-19.7%). Also, German Volkswagen (-14%), Japanese Honda (-12.2%) and Russian UAZ (-11.1%) "sank" by more than 10%. At the same time, the smallest drop in sales was recorded for the Japanese brand Mitsubishi (-1.6%). But 16 mass brands have a positive trend. The most rapid growth is at the Chinese EXEED (former CHERYEXEED).

On the low base of the previous period, its sales grew more than 16 times. Sales of Opel cars grew 3.5 times, Chery - 3.2 times, Haval - 2.3 times. Peugeot, Chevrolet, Geely and Citroen increased their sales volumes in the range from 50% to 93%. The dynamics of other mass brands was less than 20%. As for premium brands, car sales grew by 9.3% to 161,000 units. At the same time, the growth is observed at 10 of 13 representatives of this segment. Genesis added the most in sales volumes – 3.5 times. Sales of Cadillac cars grew by 67% and sales of other brands - by 3 - 13%. Three premium brands were in the negative zone: Jaguar (-45.9%), Lexus (-5.9) and Land Rover (-0.4%).

We also note that the share of the premium segment at the end of the year was 10.2%. Accordingly, the share of mass segment was 89.8%.
