How is the safety of the residual value of Chinese cars in Russia changing?

When a person buys a car, he should already understand how much he can sell it for in a year or two, three years. In Europe, the residual value of cars has long been taken into account by both buyers and those who sell cars. And automakers are doing their best to improve this indicator on the market - with discounts, support programs like trade-in, etc. The experts of the AUTOSTAT analytical agency decided to see how Chinese cars retain their residual value in Russia, the market share of which has grown recently and continues to grow.

As part of this study, experts separately looked at the safety of the residual value of cars at the age of 3 years. The graph clearly shows that the preservation of the cost of Chinese cars in this segment is still noticeably lagging behind the indicator of the mass market. But it is changing: both charts in the last 3-4 years have noticeably converged: in 2016, the difference was more than 15%, and in 2018-2019 - decreased to 2-3%. At the end of 2021 we see that the run-up has increased slightly again, but, according to experts, a somewhat non-standard situation that has developed in the new car market this year could have influenced here.

“I think that in the first years, Chinese manufacturers were faced with the task of simply coming to this market with new cars, and they imported them, focusing only on the mass and sales volumes,” says Sergey Udalov, executive director of AUTOSTAT, commenting on this schedule. – “But manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom are quite progressively looking at what is happening in the world and are mastering everything quite progressively ... For the last 5 years, the increase in the share of "Chinese" cars in the car market has led to the fact that they have become more interesting to buyers.

Some of the automakers already support trade-in, offer a number of other programs for clients, and the situation is changing ... ”.
