How many cars are there in the federal districts of Russia?

According to the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, at the beginning of 2021 there were 45 million passenger cars in Russia. However, the size of the fleet can vary significantly from region to region.

Thus, more than a quarter (28%) of all passenger cars in the country is registered in the Central Federal District. It is home to 12.7 million cars, half of which are in Moscow (3.6 million units; 8%) and the Moscow region (2.74 units; 6%). Every fifth Russian car (20%) is listed in the Volga Federal District, in the fleet of which there are 9.03 million cars. Most of cars are registered there in Bashkortostan (1.29 million units; 3%), Tatarstan (1.29 million units; 3%) and the Samara region (1.06 million units; 2%).

The third largest fleet in the country is located in Siberia, where 5.21 million vehicles (12%) are registered. At the same time, none of the Siberian regions was included in the top ten by this indicator. The Northwestern and Southern Federal Districts have a comparable size of fleets - 4.56 and 4.54 million vehicles, respectively. They have 10% each, and most of all cars are registered in the Krasnodar Territory (1.93 million units; 4%), St. Petersburg (1.71 million units; 4%) and Rostov region (1.36 million units; 3%).

There are 4.04 million cars (9%) in the Urals, and the largest fleet is in the Sverdlovsk (1.37 million units; 3%) and Chelyabinsk (1.13 million units; 3%) regions. Finally, the least number of cars is in the Far East and the North Caucasus - 2.62 million units (6%) and 2.3 million units (5%), respectively.
