Russia climbed to the 11th place in the ranking of world car markets

In the rating of the world's largest car markets, our country has improved its position. As the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" noted, despite the market decline, Russia managed to rise from the 12th to the 11th line and came closer to the TOP-10.

At the end of 9 months of 2020, the volume of the Russian car market was almost 1.1 million new passenger cars and LCVs. This is lower by 14% than in the same period of the previous year. But since the Italian car market fell even more during this time (-33% to 1.07 million units), Russia managed to bypass it and take an intermediate 11th place (in 2019 we were in 12th).

However, the TOP-10 is just a stone's throw away - from Canada, which is the 10th one, we are less than 60 thousand vehicles behind. The fall of the Canadian car market (-24%) is stronger than in ours, and there are still three months before the end of the year. And if the current trend continues, then Russia can reasonably count on entering the top ten leading car markets in the world. As for other countries, China remains the largest car market in the world - about 16.5 million cars were sold there from January to September. The United States is the second one (10.3 million units), Japan is the third one (approximately 3.4 million units). The results of the rest are shown in the picture. These are the 12 largest car markets, which consolidate almost 80% of global car sales. For 9 months of this year, their volume was 54 million units, by showing a decrease of 19%.

Note that, apart from the South Korean car market, they all show a drop: from -10% in China to -33% in Italy. At the same time, in terms of the level of decline, Russia is the second only to China.
