In January - September of 2020, sales of new passenger cars in Russia were 1 million 024.7 thousand units, which is lower by 13% in compare with a year ago. Experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" noted that the positive dynamics was recorded only in one segment - coupes / convertibles, the share of which is only 0.6%. The rest, including the two largest - B and SUV (they have 85% of the total market), went into negative territory.
Most of all, cars of the SUV segment are sold in our country: 491 thousand new crossovers and SUVs were sold for 9 months, which is lower by 7.6% than a year ago. We should note that other segments fell much deeper, with declines ranging from -15.1% (pickups) to -27.4% (segment C).
The share of SUV was 48% of total sales. Hyundai Creta still holds the leadership among models, and Toyota RAV4 and Volkswagen Tiguan are in the top three by the results of 9 months. Sales of segment B cars fell by 15.4% to 381.4 thousand units. In January - September, their share was over 37% of the market. Here, too, the bestseller remains unchanged - LADA Granta. The rest of the TOP-3 participants in this segment also remained in their positions: LADA Vesta - the second, KIA Rio - the third.
Segment D had 5% of total sales (50.6 thousand units). Toyota Camry, KIA Optima and Hyundai Sonata are leading here. The share of class C cars was 4.5% (45.7 thousand units). The share of each of the remaining segments is less than 3%. This is shown more clearly in the picture.
