Leaders of the Russian car market in August of 2020

In the previous month of summer, sales of new cars (passenger cars and LCVs) in our country reached 137,517 units, which is only 0.5% less in compare with August of 2019. It should be noted that the AEB statistics do not include the sales volumes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, MINI and Smart.

LADA remains the brand-leader of the Russian car market. Sales of such cars in August reached 28,621 units, which corresponds to a market share of 20.8%. The second place of the rating is occupied by the Korean KIA with a result of 19,818 sold cars and a market share of 14.4%. Another Korean brand, Hyundai, entered the top-3 with 17,462 sold cars and a 12.7% share. Thus, as the experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" noted, in total the share of these brands was about a half (47.9%) of the Russian car market in the previous month.

Only four of ten leading brands recorded sales growth in compare with August 2019, and the remaining six brands show the negative dynamics. At the same time, the highest growth is demonstrated by Volkswagen (+ 33.7%), and the largest decline is noted by Nissan (-35.1%).

Russian LADA Granta keeps its leadership among the models. Its sales volume reached 10,550 units in the previous month. LADA Vesta is the second one with 8522 sold cars. The title of the best foreign car in the Russian Federation belongs to KIA Rio, with 7664 sold units. The top-5 also included Hyundai Сreta (7,632 units) and Volkswagen Polo (7426 units), which, by the way, demonstrates the greatest growth (+ 60.5%) in the TOP-20. And sales of Renault Kaptur (-26.5%) fell most of all, which finished our model rating.
