According to the assessment of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", from January to June 2020, Russians spent 997.4 billion rubles on the purchase of new cars. This is lower by 16.4% than in the same period of the previous year (1,192.4 billion rubles).

Most of money was spent on Toyota cars - 110.7 billion rubles. Slightly less, but quite comparable in terms of volumes, it was spent on the purchase of KIA (110.6 billion rubles). But if for the Japanese brand this indicator fell by 7.1% for the year, then for the Korean brand - by more than a quarter (-25.5%). The third place in the rating is occupied by the domestic LADA with a result of 87.6 billion rubles. It is higher than it was at Mercedes-Benz (84.8 billion rubles) and BMW (84.1 billion rubles).

At the same time, we note that the domestic brand has the largest sales volume (in pieces) and the lowest weighted average price in the top-10 for the model range (684 rubles), while Mercedes-Benz and BMW have the highest price (5,462 and 4,918 rubles, respectively). However, in comparison with the previous year's result, we see that LADA market capacity fell by 19.8%, while the decline of Mercedes-Benz was only 2.2%. As for BMW, which finished the top-5 in terms of market capacity in monetary terms, the Bavarian brand is the only one from the TOP-10 showing positive dynamics in compare with January-June 2019 (+ 4.6%).

The market capacity of the Korean brand Hyundai (83.6 billion rubles) lags slightly behind BMW. Volkswagen (61.2 billion rubles), Skoda (52.5 billion rubles) and Renault (51.3 billion rubles) also managed to surpass the bar of 50 billion rubles. Japanese Nissan finished the top-10 with 44.6 billion rubles. Experts note that the majority of brands went negative for an obvious reason: April market collapse caused by the pandemic and restrictions in the work of car dealers affected.
