According to the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, in May of 2020, the market of new passenger cars in Russia continued to fall, which was 47.6% in compare with May of 2019. At the same time, the mass segment fell by 48.3%, and the premium segment - by 41.6%. 55,151 people purchased cars of mass brands during this period.

Most of brands from the TOP-25 by the market size showed a decrease of more than 30%. Only four brands have positive dynamics - Ravon (40-fold increase), Changan (+ 141%), Isuzu (+ 83.3%) and Haval (+ 5.3%). It is noted that the market growth of these brands is usually associated with a low base of the previous period.

Other brands from the mass segment went to “minus” in May. Only UAZ (-17.9%) and FAW (-24%) lost less than a quarter of the market. Nine brands reduced volumes from 25% to 50% and other seven ones - from 50% to 60%. More than 70% of the indicators of May’19 were lost by Subaru (-71.1%) and Peugeot (-74.2%), and the maximum drop in the TOP-25 was noted at the American Ford (-98.3%).

For the reporting period, 6 512 people became the owners of premium-brand cars, and absolutely all brands have negative dynamics. Lexus and MINI were doing relatively well and having lost “only” 23.1% and 25% of the market, respectively. More than a half of the results of May’19 were lost by Porsche (-51.7%), Jeep (-55.1%), Volvo (-61.9%) and Jaguar (-64.8%). And most of all, the crisis affected the Japanese brand Infiniti and Korean Genesis - their market drop exceeded 70%.
