How has Russian vehicle fleet changed for 10 years?

Experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" calculated that for the last 10 years, the fleet of vehicles in our country has grown by a third. If at the beginning of 2010 its volume reached 43.9 million units, then as of January 1st, 2020 it reached 58.7 million units. Note that, in addition to cars and trucks, LCVs and buses, also motorcycles and trailers (including semi-trailers) are taken into account.

For the last 10 years, an increase in the fleet has occurred in most of these segments, except for buses and motorcycles. At the same time, the buses, which occupy the smallest share in the fleet, remained at the same level (0.4 million units), but the motorcycle fleet fell by 14% to 2.4 million. Cars still occupy a significant share in the Russian fleet of vehicles cars, their number grew by 40% for 10 years - from 31.8 to 44.5 million units.

The number of light commercial vehicles grew by a million: at the beginning of 2020, there were 4.2 million of them (+ 31% in compare with 2010). Trucks show a more modest increase (+ 9%), however, their number has grown from 3.5 to 3.8 million units. The fleet of trailers shows the highest growth dynamics (+ 55%). If earlier their number was 2.2 million, now it is about 3.4 million units.

According to the experts of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, a change in the structure of the Russian fleet of vehicles allows us to judge the degree of development of motorization of the country's population (increase in the number of cars) and the development of commercial networks and projects (increase in the fleet of trailers, trucks and light commercial vehicles).
