What cars were the most popular in Russia for the last 20 years?

Experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" compiled a rating of the best-selling new cars in our country for the last 20 years, i.e. in 2000 - 2019 years. The record holder by the number of titles for this period is VAZ “Classic”, which scored 8 of them. Still, among the presented models, it stayed for a long time in the conveyor.

It was succeeded to interrupt its hegemony in 2005 - 2006 (LADA Samara) and in 2009 (LADA Priora). And in 2007 - 2008 and in 2010, "classic" cars again climbed to the top of the podium. Moreover, in the second half of the “2000”, their market share was already several times lower than in the first half. Since 2011, the more recent LADA models - Kalina, Priora, Granta - have finally come to the fore. The latter even managed to hold the title of bestseller of the Russian market for three consecutive years.

Until 2015, inclusively, the best-selling models belonged to one brand - domestic LADA. But competition from foreign cars was intensified. So, in 2016 Hyundai Solaris became the leader of our market for the first time, and a year later it was replaced by KIA Rio. In 2018, the title of bestseller returned to LADA - for the first time it became Vesta model. But a year later, this title moved to a more affordable Granta. Thus, four years later it became again the leader of the Russian market. There are several reasons: Granta is cheaper, and it has been updated quite recently, and replenished with new bodies due to the departed Kalina. And the Russians are not getting richer, but car prices are rising ...
