Last year, new car sales in Russia fell by 2.3% in compare with 2018. At the same time, the mass and premium segments showed multidirectional market dynamics. So, the sale of cars in the mass segment fell by 3% to 1 million 512.7 thousand units. This represents 90.5% of the whole Russian market. The best dynamics in the TOP-25 of brands in terms of sales is shown by Chinese brands.

The leader is Haval, the car sales of which grew 3.8 times for the year. Geely (2.9 times growth) and Changan (+ 85.8%) are the next. The market growth of other brands that are in positive territory is less than 30%. Most of brands of the mass segment (14 from the TOP-25) have negative market dynamics. And here, the manufacturer from the PRC “distinguished” also - in 2019, the sales of Lifan fell the most (-73.8%). In this regard, the Japanese Honda (-64.1%) and the American Ford (-57%) are slightly inferior to it.

Other brands lost less than 25% of the 2018 level. Sales of premium segment cars grew by 5.1% to 159.4 thousand units in the last year (the share is 9.5%). Most representatives of this segment show the growth (9 of 14 brands). The best market dynamics is observed at Genesis, sales of which grew by almost a quarter. This indicator of Porcshe, BMW, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz is in the range from + 10% to + 20%. And for MINI, smart, Jeep and Audi, sales grew by less than 10%.

Sales in the premium segment fell only at 5 brands. So, Jaguar fell the most (-31.5%), Infiniti lost a quarter of the previous volume. At Cadillac and Land Rover, sales fell by 17.1% and 12%, respectively, while Lexus did not have about 8% to achieve the result of 2018.
