Analytic agency "AUTOSTAT" conducted a study of the passenger car market in Russia. It covered both new cars, and used ones, and in all federal districts of the country. According to the survey, for the year (from November of 2017 to October of 2018), 48 cars were sold per one thousand Russians, incl. 11 new cars and 37 used ones.
Depending on the place of residence, this indicator may differ markedly. Thus, in St. Petersburg and Moscow, it is sold 21 and 19 new cars per a thousand people, respectively, which is significantly higher than the national average. In this case, the indicators here will be less by the used cars - 36 and 23 units, respectively. As it can be seen, in both capital cities the ratio between sales of used and new cars is not as significant as in other regions of the country.
For example, in the Far East, there is a traditionally significant bias towards the secondary market, which is 16 times greater than the primary one. Moreover, there are sold 48 used vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants – it is more than in other federal districts. And accordingly new cars (3 units per 1000 people) – it is sold less than everywhere else. As we move from east to west of the country, this ratio gradually decreases. This ratio is more in the South and North Caucasus, than it is in average in Russia.
