What kind of motor oils do Russian car owners prefer?

Specialists of the analytic agency "AUTOSTAT" in the framework of the new research "AUTOSTAT OMNIBUS - 2018. Motor oils: Preferences of car owners" * conducted a survey on the choice of motor oils. The results of a survey conducted in September-October of 2018 (more than 3 thousand car owners participated) showed that 45.9% of respondents prefer the synthetic oil for the engine of their car.

Approximately the same amount (45.5 %), by choosing between "synthetics" and "semi-synthetics", gives the preference to semi-synthetic oils. Thus, the voices were divided almost equally. Only 3% of respondents chose mineral oil. As for the brand preference rating based on the survey, the TOP-5 of the most popular products included the following brands: Shell (17.4% of respondents preferred this brand to others), Lukoil (15.1%), Mobil (13.3%), Castrol (8.9%), ZIC (6%). In general, these 5 brands accounted for about 60% of the questionnaires from the total sample. It is worth noting that 18 brands were sampled. In a more detailed study of the survey data, the experts noticed that the preferences of car owners in oil choosing depend mostly on the region of residence. For example, the Shell brand, according to the results of the survey, leads in the North Caucasus Federal District, and the Lukoil brand has a stronger position in the North-West Federal District. * This study was conducted by online survey in September-October of 2018. It was attended by more than 3,000 car owners. When forming the sample, quotas by gender were taken into account (no more than 10% of women car owners), as well as on the basis of “age of the car” and “geography of respondents” (calculated on the basis of the structure of the active Russian parc).
