Leaders of the car market in August of 2018

In August of this year, the sales of passenger cars and LCV in our country were 147.4 thousand units - more by 11% than in August of 2017. Just for 8 months, sales of cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia were 1 million 140 thousand units, which is more by 16.2% than in January-August of the last year.

TOP-10 of automakers is headed by the alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, which sold 52.9 thousand cars in the Russian market in August, which corresponds to a market share of 35.9%. Recall that we take into account the results of sales of LADA cars here, as well. AVTOVAZ is a member of this alliance.

At the second place of the rating of automakers is KIA-Hyundai with 33.1 thousand sold units and the market share of 22.4%. The third position is occupied by Volkswagen Group with the volume of 17,3 thousand sold cars and the share of 11,7%. Thus, the TOP-three of leaders has 70% of the Russian car market.

We should also note that the largest market growth was demonstrated by the Japanese Mazda in August (+ 30.7%), which occupied the tenth place of this rating. And three automakers have negative dynamics: Ford (-4.4%), Mercedes-Benz (-4.6%) and UAZ (-7.4%).

The most popular model was LADA Vesta in August, which was sold in amount of 8,500 units. On the second place there is KIA Rio, which was sold in amount of 7,8 thousand units. The TOP- three of leaders is closed by LADA Granta, the sales of which for the reporting period were almost 7 thousand cars.

The TOP-5 of the models also included crossover Hyundai Creta (5,3 thousand units) and sedan Volkswagen Polo (5,2 thousand units). Another Hyundai model - the Solaris sedan (4.8 thousand units) is the next, which showed the largest drop (-31.1%). In addition, other 5 models show a fall in the TOP-20 of rating. At the same time, the largest increase in sales was registered by KIA Optima (+ 115.7%).
