Experts of the analytic agency "AUTOSTAT" have established that the average engine power of new cars that are purchased in Russia is 137.1 hp. However, depending on the region of residence, this indicator may vary significantly. So, by the results of 5 months of 2018, the average engine power of the purchased cars was higher than the average in Russia only in 27 regions of our country.
The most powerful cars (over 150 hp) are preferred by residents of the capital and a number of Far Eastern regions. For example, the highest indicator in Primorsk Territory is 178,9 hp. And if in Moscow it is associated with a higher standard of living, then in the Far East – it is explained by the structure of the market. The fact is that new cars here are not in high demand - if they are bought, then it is usually the premium segment, which implies the presence of a powerful engine.
In the most regions, the average engine power is below than the national average, and it is the lowest in Kalmykia, which is 118.5 hp. And in several regions of the Volga region, it does not even reach 125 hp. Among the reasons it is the high share of sales of domestic cars, usually LADA brands, the engines of which have power parameters in the range from 87 to 122 hp.
