According to the data of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, in the 1H, 2019, the market volume of passenger cars with right-hand drive in the Russian Federation amounted to 288.4 thousand units. This is 1% less than in January - June of the previous year (291.2 thousand units). We should note that almost the whole volume of right-hand drive cars includes used vehicles, and only several of them are new ones.

13% of this number, or 37.6 thousand cars were registered for the first owners. In other words, these are vehicles imported into Russia from Japan. Moreover, in the 1H of 2019 this indicator increased by 35%. This is largely due to the fact that the tightening of the rules for importing right-hand drive cars should have come into force on July 1st, 2019, and before that date, people tried to import more of these cars into the Russian Federation. But now it has been postponed for one year, as a result of which residents of the Far Eastern Federal District will be able to import right-hand drive cars according to the old rules.

Thus, a significant share of the right-hand drive market (87% or 250.8 thousand units) is a change of ownership, i.e. "secondary". Its volume for the reporting period fell by 1%.

Experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" noted that over 85% of all cars with right-hand drive in our country are sold in the regions of the Far East and Siberia. So, according to the results of 6 months of this year, the inhabitants of the Far Eastern Federal District purchased 137.4 thousand of such cars - 0.4% less than the previous year. And the Siberians bought 112 thousand right-hand drive cars (-0.9%) during the same time.
