Mitsubishi is going to focus on the development of off-road vehicles

Mitsubishi Company is going to become so-called “niche” car manufacturer, by concentrating on the development and production of only two types of cars. SUVs and minivans should become the basis of the company's model range, while its partners will work with the more compact models.

According to Avto.Vesti.Ru, concepts, which were presented by Mitsubishi at Tokyo Motor Show, hinted clearly at the general direction of development, which was chosen by the management of company. “Mitsubishi has found its niche in the market and we are confident that we can take a leadership position in the market segment of SUVs and minivans, especially with the using of the latest hybrid technology”, - said the portal Autocar, the source within the company.

This policy threatens the existence of such popular models of Japanese companies such as, for example, Colt / Mirage or Lancer. The sources did not report whether Mitsubishi refuse completely from passenger models in favor of SUVs. However, some experts suggest that the development of sedans and hatchbacks may be entrusted by Mitsubishi to the concern Renault-Nissan, with which agreed to cooperate a month ago. 

According to some reports, Mitsubishi will have access to several models Renault-Nissan within the alliance, which will sell under its own brand. In addition, the parties agreed to exchange technology and the joint development of a small electric car.
