Preproduction Yo-mobile will be presented in July

Presentation of the Yo-mobile will take place on 4 July 2013 at the Dmitrov proving ground of the Central Automobile and Auto-motor Research and Development Institute (NAMI). This was announced by the Chairman of Board of Directors of Yo-Auto, Andrey Biryukov. According to him Yo-mobile plant, which is being constructed in St. Petersburg, is “in high readiness”. “The project is technologically ready. Alfa-prototypes are being tested now”, - he said, having mentioned that 80% - 85% of units and components were similar to the elements of cars, which would be productionized.

According to Autoreview, today the Yo-crossover is an all-wheel drive car with steel space frame and thermoformed composite plastic and polypropylene body. The car is equipped with 1.4-liter internal-combustion engine as well as mechatronic modules with integrated electric motors and super-capacitor unit. The engine works on both gasoline and natural gas. However engineers could not squeeze both gas tank and spare wheel into the car. So the buyers of the serial cars will have to choose one of them. Moreover, quarter windows of the Yo-mobile cannot be opened and have quarter vents instead.

We should remind that the project of the new Russian car development started in April 2010. At the end of 2010 prototypes of three Russian hybrid cars based on the same platform (minivan, cross-coupe and city van) were introduced, RBK announces.

On 16 May 2011 the company started official booking of the Yo-mobile and in June 2011 construction of the plant in Maryino industrial zone near St. Petersburg was started.

However production of the first serial Yo-mobile is constantly rescheduled. First it was planned for April 2013, but finally it was postponed till 2015. It is supposed that the Yo-mobile will be produced in St. Petersburg as well as in other cities.

The project is implemented by Yo-Auto joint venture, 51% of which belongs to Mikhail Prokhorov’s ONEXIM and 49% share is owned by Yarovit Motors. ONEXIM investment group and Yarovit company invest 150 million euro in development and serial production of the car.
