  • 08.02.19 TOP-10 of models-leaders of the Russian SUV market in 2018

For the last year, 1 million 671.6 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is more by 13.3% than in the last year. At the same time, in December of 2018, sales of new cars were 158.3 thousand units, which is more by 3.9% than a year ago. As for crossovers and SUVs, their sales in January-December grew by 18.1% in compare with 2017 and they were 729.2 thousand cars. The segment's share in total sales grew by 1.7 percentage points and reached 43.6%.

Byelorussian car market grew by 27% in 2012

According to Byelorussian car association (BCA), sales of cars of all types in Belarus grew by 27% and they were 20,648 units in 2012. In connection with the change in the VAT collection in this Republic and price unification with dealer networks of Customs Union countries in the car market of Byelorussia, the structural changes took place. As a result of these changes sales of Russian brands grew by 138% and sales of other brands only by 6%.

According to “UkrAvtoProm” with the referring to BCA, sales of passenger cars in 2012 reached the level of 15,986 units (+19%). The TOP-3 leaders in this segment of car market remained the same: Lada, Volkswagen, and Renault. The absolute leader of this segment was Russian AvtoVAZ, which showed the sales growth by 112%. Sales of commercial vehicles in 2012 in Byelorussia grew by 64% and they reached the level of 4,662 units.

According to, the future market development will depend on finance service terms. The refinancing rate drop to the planned by government 20-21% will be the main catalyst of sales growth of new cars.

It should be noted that the relatively stable forecast of sales is for those brands that have assembly plants in Russia. According to national experts, these cars will be in a high demand due to the lack of “customs clearance” and more attractive prices.

Considerable expectations are imposed on output of Byelorussian-Chinese joint ventures that began actively to assemble cars in 2013. We could remark price in favour of these cars production and also quite possible protectorate at the government level.

Another positive growth factor is the development of programs Trade-In. Big players of market make a big bet on this sales tool. The plant program Das Welt Auto was already launched at two dealers of Volkswagen, in which the used cars by system Trade-In are sold with warranty. It is assumed that in 2013 plant programs Trade-In can be launched by other brands in Byelorussia.
