    In 2018, sales of new cars in Russia grew by 12.8% in compare with 2017. Both segments - the mass and premium ones - also showed the growth (+ 13.9% and + 7.4%, respectively). Sales of cars of mass brands reached 1 572 246 units in 2018, the share of which is 91.2% of the total sales volume.

Premium-segment continues to grow quicker than market

 

The growth of car market, as analysts and distributors predicted, became slower by the results of the first quarter. But, according to estimations of analysts of AUTOSTAT agency, registration of new cars of premium segments, without account of SUVs, continues to grow at a priority rates. So, the volume of registrations of compact cars of segment (it includes BWM 1 series, Audi A3, Mini, etc.) increased by 46% for the first three months. Among models the leader is BMW 1 series with 841 of registered cars. The low part of segment (it includes Audi A4, BMW3, Mercedes of C class, etc.) grew by 70% in compare with the results of the first quarter of 2010. The leader is Mercedes of С class here with 2182 of registered cars. The part of segment, which includes models Audi A6, BMW 5 series, Lexus ES, increased by 51% with the leader Mercedes of E class. The top of segment increased by 23% and the leader here is also Mercedes but Mercedes of S class with 505 of sold cars.

Segment of big SUVs with such models as Audi Q7, BMW X5, Toyota Land Cruiser grew only by 29%. The share of this segment was 4,7% by the results of quarter that is considerably more than the above mentioned have. 

“It should be remarked that such factor as the term of premium cars delivery, which could be much longer than low-cost cars delivery, could influence on these optimistic results. So, orders that were made at the end of autumn of the previous year could influence on growth of registrations”, - commented Sergey Udalov, executive director of analytic agency AUTOSTAT.
