TOP-50 of regions in Russia by sales volume of new foreign cars in 2011

It was sold 1,91 million of foreign passenger cars and light commercial vehicles for 2011 and it is more by 52,2% than in the previous year (1,26 million units). 

The first place by sales volumes in 2011 is occupied by Moscow and Moscow region, where it was sold 671,5 thousand cars. The share of capital was 35,1% of car market of Russia. In compare with the previous year Moscow citizens bought foreign cars more active by 36%. 

The second place is belonged to St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. In January-December of 2011 it was sold 177 thousand of new foreign cars here. The share of market of North capital four times less – 9,2%. The third place is kept stably by Sverdlovsk region with volume of 77,3 thousand cars and with share of 4,0%. It was sold 64,2 thousand of new foreign cars in Tyumen region in the previous year and it got the fourth place in the rating and the market share of 3,4%. Analysts remarked that these four regions have more than 50% of total Russian car market. Krasnodar region is also in the TOP-5 of leaders, where it was sold 63 thousand cars. 

Republic Tatarstan (57,4 thousand units; 3,0%), Nizhny Novgorod region (52,7 thousand units; 2,8%), Chelyabinsk region (50,5 thousand units; 2,6%), Samara (50,3 thousand units; 2,6%) and Rostov (49,5 thousand units; 2,6%) regions are also in the TOP-10.

The share of the first 11 regions is more than 70% of sales and the share of TOP-20 is almost 80% of market of new foreign cars in RF.

Analysts remarked that by the results of 2011 Primorsk region got the 49th place in the TOP-50, it was sold 4,9 thousand of new foreign cars there and it exceeded the indicator of the previous year by 37%. 

Dynamics of sales of new foreign cars in more than a half of regions from TOP-50 was higher than it was in average in Russia. “Car markets of Siberia and Ural continue to recover actively after the crisis. The recovery of economy in regions permit to open new dealer centres and brands are interested in their networks development”, - remarked Sergey Udalov, executive director of AUTOSTAT agency. “The wider network, the more cars could be sold by distributors. The main bet is on regions as it is already difficult to increase sales volume in the capital”, - the expert added.
