On 27 October 2011, AvtoVAZ bought in 100% share of Joint Automotive Group, which managed the Izhevsk car plant. The transaction costs were 1.7 billion roubles, which is 100 million roubles less than JAG paid for IzhAvto during auction in September. According to AvtoVAZ, the bargain was made in conformity with memorandum of understanding about long-term development and modernization of IzhAvto, signed by Rostechnology state corporation , AvtoVAZ, and Sberbank, major creditors of IzhAvto, in December 2010.

According to Kommersant newspaper, the total debt of the Izhevsk car plant came up to 13.5 billion roubles. 8.2 billion of them was the debt to Sberbank, which ceded 5.2 billion roubles of this debt to Rostechnology and will write off the rest 2.7 billion roubles. Other debts (for AkBars, Uralsib and Alfa-bank should be paid off as a result of IzhAvto non-core assets sales.

Meanwhile, AvtoVAZ intends to invest up to 7 billion roubles in modernization of the Izhevsk car plant till 2016. The money will be invested with Sberbank loan with the period up to seven years. IzhAvto capacity is planned to be increased from the current 220,000 up to 360,000 cars per year in 2014.

At present the enterprise assembles the Lada 2107 and the Lada 2104, as well as the Izh-27175 van. Next year IzhAvto is planning to start production of the new low-cost Lada Granta. Moreover, the model lineup of the Udmurt enterprise should be added with some Renault-Nissan models.
