Sales of premium cars grew by 9% in Russia


In the first quarter of 2019, Russians purchased 34.5 thousand new premium cars, which is more by 9.2% than a year ago. Thus, according to the experts of the analytic agency AUTOSTAT, the premium segment is growing against the background of the fall of the whole Russian market (-0.3%).

By the results of 3 months of this year, German BMW is the leader of sales among premium brands. During this time, residents of our country have become owners of 9,685 of such cars - more by 22% than in January - March of 2018. The former leader - Mercedes-Benz - dropped to the second place of the rating. Its result was 8,936 sold passenger cars (+ 5%).

The TOP-three of leaders is closed with a long gap by Japanese Lexus (3,938 units; -21%). It is followed by Audi (3,363 units; + 2%) and Land Rover (2,132 units; -2%). Volvo (1616 units; + 72%) and Infiniti (1278 units; + 9%) also overcame the mark of a thousand sold units.

In addition to them, in the first quarter of 2019, Russians bought new premium cars of the following brands: Porsche (993 units; + 39%), Genesis (609 units; + 191%), MINI (591 units; + 23%), Jaguar (562 units; + 2%), Jeep (511 units; + 80%), Cadillac (204 units; + 12%) and smart (57 units; -57%).

Experts of the analytic agency AUTOSTAT noted that due to the existing positive dynamics, the market share of the premium segment in the first quarter rose up to 8.8%, although a year before this figure was 8%.
