Leaders of the Russian car market in 2017

The Russian car market grew by 18% in April

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia grew by 17.6% in April up to 152,425 cars. According to the results of four months of 2018, the Russian car market grew by 20.5% to 545,345 vehicles, according to the data of the Association of European Businesses.

As noted in the AEB, April was a successful month for the Russian automotive market, repeating the double-digit growth in sales volume, as it was also in the last year. The appetite of buyers does not subside, which is supported by a growing selection of new models offered at attractive prices. The appreciable weakening of the ruble in recent weeks has become an unforeseen factor motivating buyers to accelerate the purchase of a new car in anticipation of a potential price increase. As a result, the number of orders for new cars has sharply increased, which is excellent news for sales statistics in the short term. Recall, according to the AEB forecast, in 2018, the Russian car market could grow by 10% to 1.75 million cars to the last year.

Leadership in the Russian car market is held by AvtoVAZ, which sold 30,712 LADA cars in the last month, more by 17% than a year ago. The second place in terms of sales was occupied by KIA - the sales of 19,591 cars (+ 22%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. Hyundai keeps the third place with the figure of 15,863 sold cars, which is more by 16% than in the previous year. Then Renault follows - cars of this brand were chosen by 11,954 buyers (+ 3%). The top-five of leaders is closed by Volkswagen, sales of which were 8,905 cars (+ 23%).

The TOP-10 of the best-selling brands, also included in April: Toyota (8,774 units, + 24%), Skoda (6,331 units, + 18%), Nissan (5,620 units, + 14%), GAZ (5,367 units, + 12%) and Ford (4,891 units, + 21%).
