Toyota overtook Mercedes-Benz in terms of revenue in the Russian market

Analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" conducted a study of the market of new cars in Russia, and it has counted the revenue from their sale for the first eight months of 2016.

According to the study, during the reporting period the leader by sales in the Russian market was the Japanese brand Toyota, which reached 131.8 billion rubles – by 2.9% more than in January - August of 2015. In its turn, the former leader - German Mercedes-Benz - dropped to the second place, by earning for the first eight months of this year, 129.5 billion rubles, which corresponds almost to the result of a year ago(-0.4%). It should be noted that the Mercedes-Benz sold by approximately 2,5 times less of passenger cars than Toyota (24.3 against 59.8 thousand units), but their price is higher by the same times (5,3 and 2,2 million rubles, respectively), which permits both of brands to compete for leadership in sales in the Russian market.

In the third line of the rating there is the Korean manufacturer KIA, which during this time managed to get revenue in the amount of 93.4 billion rubles (2.6%). Domestic brand LADA is located on the fourth position with a score of 89.5 billion rubles (+ 7.1%). Although the Russian brand has the highest sales result (162.1 thousand units), but due to the low average price of their cars (more than 550 thousand Rub.), it gives place in the top-three. Korean Hyundai closes the top-five (80,8 billion rubles; -6.3%).

In total for the first eight months of 2016, Russians spent on the purchase of new cars 1.1317 trillion rubles - almost as much (-0.3%), as it was spent in the same period of last year (1.1351 billion rubles).
